How to play Flag XI

Eleven flags laid out in a formation. Each flag is one player's nationality. Name the club. Three teams a day, four guesses each.

Every miss unlocks a clue: the league and season, then the manager (or the match, for famous line-ups), then the goalkeeper's name. A first-guess answer scores 4, then 3, 2 and 1. Score eight or more out of 12 to keep your streak.

The teams

Most days are this season's squads from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and more: eleven of the club's strongest players in a 4-3-3 shape. Harder days add famous line-ups from Champions League finals and title races. Mondays are the easiest, Saturdays the hardest.

Flag XI FAQ

Is it the real starting XI?

For famous matches, yes. For this season's squads it is eleven of the club's best-rated players in a 4-3-3 shape, so it is close to the first team but not a confirmed line-up.

Which flag does a dual national get?

His first listed nationality.
