Fees have gone up so fast that era matters more than the player. A world-record fee from 2001 is a mid-table signing now. Mixing Neymar with a 2010 Premier League move and a 2024 Brighton sale is where most people get caught out. Look at the year before you look at the name.
Fees are reported fees in euros from Transfermarkt, including add-ons where they were reported at the time. The pool is every permanent transfer of 15 million euros or more up to summer 2025, from every league. Loans and free transfers are left out.
