How to play Up the Pyramid

You are the new chairman of a club in the Northern Premier League, the seventh tier of English football. You have ten seasons. The Premier League is six promotions away.

Every summer you make four calls: who manages the team, how much to spend on players, one investment (a new stand, the training ground, the academy, or bank it) and what to charge for tickets. Then you answer one thing in your inbox: a bid for your best player, a sponsor, an investor. Then the season plays out.

Money

A better squad costs more in wages. Bigger crowds, TV money and promotion pay for it. Go past your overdraft and the club goes into administration: ten points docked and a fire sale. Three times and the club folds.

Scoring and streaks

14 points for every division you climb and 4 for every title. Finish in the National League or higher to keep your streak. Everyone gets the same managers, events and luck each day, so you can compare runs with your mates.

Up the Pyramid FAQ

Are the clubs real?

No. The divisions are real, every club, manager, player and sponsor is made up.

Can I reach the Premier League?

Yes, but it takes six promotions in ten seasons. Most good runs finish in League Two or League One.
